This worksheet is primarily intended for primary school teachers as a methodological teaching aid. It integrates knowledge from several subjects, particularly history, chemistry and the natural sciences, and offers pupils the opportunity to understand both historical and scientific aspects of mining through practical activities.
The worksheet focuses on the phenomenon of so-called “cementation copper”, which was once considered an almost miraculous process – the transformation of iron into copper through the action of mine waters. Through tasks and an experiment, pupils:
- become familiar with historical technologies of mining and metal processing,
- understand the basic principles of chemical reactions (oxidation and reduction),
- develop logical thinking and the ability to work with information,
- carry out a simple experiment to produce copper from copper sulphate.
The worksheet includes:
- an introductory text with historical context,
- tasks for comprehension and discussion,
- a practical experiment with a detailed procedure,
- questions for evaluation and reflection on the results.
