This worksheet is primarily intended for primary school teachers as a methodological teaching aid. It integrates knowledge from history, chemistry and natural sciences, and offers pupils the opportunity to understand both historical and scientific aspects of mining through practical activities.
The worksheet focuses on the study of vegetation on mining heaps in the area of Ľubietová, which were formed as a result of historical mining and represent specific and challenging conditions for plant life. Pupils compare vegetation with the locality of Špania Dolina and analyse differences in species composition and environmental conditions.
Through field observations and tasks, pupils:
- map the occurrence of plants and record their characteristics,
- identify plant species using digital tools,
- analyse environmental conditions affecting vegetation growth,
- compare vegetation across different mining sites,
- create their own digital herbarium and present their findings.
The worksheet includes:
- an introductory text with environmental context,
- a field activity focused on mapping vegetation,
- tasks for comparing two localities (Špania Dolina and Ľubietová),
- tables for recording and analysing data,
- activities that support critical thinking and interpretation of results.
