This worksheet is primarily intended for primary school teachers as a methodological teaching aid. It integrates knowledge from history, chemistry and natural sciences, and offers pupils the opportunity to understand both historical and scientific aspects of mining through practical activities.
The worksheet focuses on the mining region of the municipality of Ľubietová, which is historically significant for metal extraction and also represents an example of the environmental impacts of mining activities. Pupils become familiar with the occurrence of ore minerals, processes of metal extraction and the issue of water contamination by heavy metals.
Through tasks and experiments, pupils:
- explore the historical and geographical context of the mining region,
- understand the principles of cementation and redox reactions,
- analyse the effect of concentration and time on chemical reactions,
- investigate changes in materials in the natural environment (e.g. the impact of contaminated water on metals),
- assess water quality and its properties under different conditions.
The worksheet includes:
- an introductory text with historical and environmental context,
- experiments focused on chemical processes and their observation over time,
- field observations and analysis of changes in the natural environment,
- tasks aimed at evaluation and critical thinking.
