This worksheet is primarily intended for primary school teachers as a methodological teaching aid. It integrates knowledge from history, chemistry and natural sciences, and offers pupils the opportunity to understand both historical and scientific aspects of mining through practical activities.
The worksheet focuses on the process of copper smelting in Ľubietová, which was one of the key technological processes in historical mining and metallurgy. Pupils become familiar with the development of copper processing, types of copper ores, and the challenges of achieving the high temperatures required for smelting.
Through observation and creative tasks, pupils:
- explore the historical process of copper smelting and its individual stages,
- analyse technological and material aspects of metallurgical processes,
- document the smelting process through photographs or video,
- process the acquired knowledge into a presentation or video,
- develop creativity through creating a comic and interpreting historical situations.
The worksheet includes:
- an introductory text on the importance of copper and its processing in a historical context,
- practical tasks focused on observing the smelting process,
- creative activities (video, comic, presentation),
- research questions and tasks for independent information search,
- discussion of the environmental and social impacts of metallurgy.
